CLIMATE TECH

Climate tech and cleantech copywriting is an exciting area touching on a range of different industries. Examples include:

  • Roof-top solar, utility-scale solar, wind energy, off-shore wind energy, grid interconnection, transmission

  • Home battery storage, utility-scale battery storage, alternative electric vehicle battery storage for distributed energy resources

  • Other no carbon emissions alternative energy sources including geothermal, nuclear and hydroelectric

  • Building HVAC equipment such as air-source heat pumps, ground source heat pumps and networked heat pumps

  • Electric vehicles and charging infrastructure, transportation innovation using hydrogen fuel-cells, biogas fuels, etc.

  • Electric rail industry infrastructure, shipping and transportation

  • Tech-enhanced energy efficiency improvements through IoT, demand forecasting and response, machine learning, and AI

  • Hard-to-abate sector innovation such as sustainable cement, electric arc mills for steel manufacturing, and sustainable aviation fuels

  • And more!

Educating and engaging audiences on the unique, timely opportunities these technologies present is an interesting challenge. While it’s easy to talk about the benefits of cleantech, it’s not always easy to spark action from corporate clients.

Highlighting the links between financing incentives through carbon credits, tax incentives and rebates, as well as the CO2 reduction impact potential for meeting climate goals are two ways to engage companies. In addition, many climate-focused innovations reduce negative impacts on health, air quality, and noise while optimizing business operations.

Climate tech audiences are motivated for many different reasons like improving ESG performance for investors, operational efficiency improvements for lowered cost, legal compliance, and brand distinction. Understanding these different motivations is key to writing for different cleantech businesses.

In addition, it is important to address concerns of new adopters and skepticism. It's important to address relevant questions related to supply chain human rights, tech reliability and effectiveness, climate justice concerns and more using helpful context, research and framing strategies to engage in helpful thought leadership conversations.

Understanding audiences, highlighting well-reasoned perspectives and maintaining a healthy dose of excitement about climate tech innovations is key to climate tech copywriting across different industries.
